Sheila Ponomarenko, head of St Clement’s School, is stepping down on Friday after working at the primary for more than ten years and teaching for 37 years.

She now hopes to enjoy the summer before taking a trip to China and Japan with her husband John, who retired from teaching last year.

Mrs Ponomarenko (59), who has two children – Anna (30) and Adam (27) – said she would miss having contact with the pupils but that despite enjoying her career as a teacher, she would not miss the administration side of teaching.
