A proposition from St Brelade Deputy Montfort Tadier requesting that private nursery funding should not be cut was rejected following a lengthy States debate on Wednesday.

Currently, all parents can receive 20 free hours of nursery care for their children in the year before they start reception, however, under proposals from Education Minister Rod Bryans, families with a household income of £85,000 and over would see that figure reduced on a sliding scale of hours.

Deputy Bryans has come under fierce criticism since this week revealing the revised plans which would see those sending their children to non-States nurseries at risk of losing their entitlement and the full details of Deputy Bryans’ proposals are expected to be revealed when the Medium Term Financial Plan is lodged later this month.
