New hospital to be built on current site

Following years of discussions and a short-lived consultation which was aborted following a backlash over the short-listing of the People’s Park as a possible site, Health Minister Andrew Green was today due to announce his preferred plan to States Members.

Under the proposals, a 250-bed hospital would be built on the Gwyneth Huelin Wing and Peter Crill House sites behind the main hospital building, and extend onto the current plots of the Revere and Stafford Hotels as well as a 14-flat apartment block and four retail units.

If his plans are given the green light by the States, Senator Green may have to use powers of compulsory purchase to buy the buildings.
