On Tuesday, administrator AlixPartners announced that the retail chain’s 120 stores, including the town’s Halkett Street store, would close.

Edinburgh Woollen Mill, headed by Philip Day, has acquired the 116-year-old chain’s brand and five concessions in the north of England, but did not want to take on the entire store estate.

AlixPartners said that ‘no viable offers’ for the rest of the business, which went into administration on 25 April, could be found.
