No tax breaks on private student loans

In a response to a written question, Treasury Minister Alan Maclean said that making loan repayments deductible against income tax for Jersey students who take out private finance has not been looked at by his department.

The question was tabled by Deputy Sam Mézec after it was revealed earlier this month that the States would not be introducing a full student loan scheme in Jersey because it cannot afford it.

In his written response, Senator Maclean said, however, that tax allowances were already in place for families with children in higher education.
