In comments lodged with the States Assembly, the Health and Social Security Scrutiny Panel have given their backing to the proposal to extend the Island’s Discrimination Law to make it illegal to discriminate on the grounds of age from September.

If States Members approve the legislation from Social Security Minister Susie Pinel when it is debated next month, the new law will be added to those already in place to cover discrimination on the grounds of race and sex – disability discrimination is due to be introduced next year or in 2018.

The age legislation covers recruitment, paid work, voluntary work, partnerships, professional bodies, education, training, public premises, clubs and associations.
