On the first day of the trial of Nicholas Price Marvin, the Crown said that the defendant had, over a period of around five years, abused two children – a teenager and a second child aged three when the abuse started.

Mr Marvin (51) denies ten counts of indecent assault, one count of procuring an act of gross indecency and one count of inciting an act of gross indecency.

Crown Advocate Simon Thomas, prosecuting, told the jury of seven women and four men that Mr Marvin had told the girls not to tell anyone about the abuse because it would be ‘their little secret’ and it was also alleged that he told one of the victims not to tell her mother because she would ‘go to the police’ and she would be ‘sad’.

Mr Marvin – who was represented in court by Advocate Michael Preston – was first arrested in 2002 in relation to one of the alleged assaults, however he was not charged at the time and in 2012 one of the alleged victims made a formal complaint to the police and Mr Marvin was arrested and later charged.

Commissioner Julian Clyde-Smith was presiding over the case and the trial continues.
