Haute Vallée students warm to Iceland

The party of 15, which included two members of staff, experienced a wide range of excursions and activities, including visits to geothermal power plants, where they learnt how steam is used to generate electricity and how hot water is harnessed to grow crops, heat homes and buildings and melt snow on the roads through a series of underground pipes carrying hot water.

On another visit, the group saw a tectonic plate boundary, learning about the tectonic plates, convection currents, earthquakes and volcanoes.

Haute Vallée head of science Rachel Barr said that the students had really enjoyed the visit and had been a credit to the school.
