Voting close in debate over legalising drugs

The Youth Assembly, which is made up of 47 students aged between 16 and 18, meets every year to debate issues which impact on the lives of young people.

This year, the members – who are from Jersey College for Girls, Victoria College, De La Salle, Beaulieu and Hautlieu – had a chance to quiz senior politicians in the States Chamber before voting on propositions which had been brought to the Assembly by their peers.

A proposition brought by Kieran Power of De La Salle to legalise class A to C drugs was rejected by 22 votes to 20, with four abstentions.
