States outsourcing: Companies will have to meet standards

Responding to a series of questions from a number of Members in the States on Tuesday, Deputy Eddie Noel said that any contractors which were used as his department tried to make £4.6 million of annual savings from its £25 million budget would have to meet certain standards.

Those standards would, he said, include the companies given the work not being reliant on employing additional immigrants to cover the contracts.

During the sitting Deputy Sam Mézec asked the minister what factors were taken into consideration when deciding what constituted a responsible employer and, in response, the minister said: ‘We have made a commitment to the unions and to staff to stress the importance of third-party contractors being a responsible employer in the tender process.’

In what may be a record for a States Member, Infrastructure Minister Eddie Noel faced ten of the 14 questions during this week’s States question time. Read his responses in Wednesday’s JEP.
