Some have disappeared completely, victims of bulldozers making way for new developments, while some have been extensively modified to meet the demands of modern society, while others are still recognisable, reminders of a bygone era when beaches were busy, famous names performed in Jersey on a regular basis and bars and restaurants did a roaring trade.
This week, pictures of old Island hotels have been published online by Jersey Heritage, who challenged Islanders to see how many they could recognise. The pictures all featured in a local brochure from 1972 that is held in the Jersey Tourism collection at the Jersey Archive.
