However duty forecaster Peter Munns says that the mercury could plummet in the coming weeks due to a weather phenomena known as sudden stratospheric warming where high-altitude air over the North Pole warms and pushes colder low-level Arctic temperatures down to Britain.

Mr Munns made the comments after the UK Met Office predicted that the arrival of the cold air could lead to temperatures falling to minus 14°C in some parts of Britain and warned people to brace themselves for a white Easter.
