The runway has now re-opened but passengers travelling to and from Gatwick have been advised to expect delays.
The 10.30 am flight from Jersey Airport to Gatwick was still waiting to depart at lunchtime and it is thought that there would be a ‘knock-on’ effect on other flights.
Airlines have advised passengers to still check in on time.
