Since last Friday a team from Jersey Electricity has been digging up the beach at Archirondel to the low-water mark and removing a 1 km section of the original cable which was laid in 1985 and decommissioned in 2012.

Project manager Jerry Willis says a tug will arrive in mid-March to begin the process of lifting the whole cable from the sea bed.

‘The shore team will now move to France to carry out the same work on the beach at the French end, digging the cable from low water to the land which should take ten days,’ he said.
