Work is under way to set up Jersey’s first Recovery College, which will offer courses for people with mental illness to aid their recovery, and others affected by the condition.
It is the first development to emerge from the launch of the Island’s first Mental Health Strategy, a blueprint for tackling the issue over the next five years.
The document, which was developed by the Education, Home Affairs, Social Security and Chief Minister’s departments over an 18-month period, followed a lengthy review of the Island’s mental health services, and the strategy sets out a series of objectives, which include working in schools to educate students about mental health issues, increasing the number of services available at GP practices and helping patients to accept their diagnosis in order to live an ordinary life.
