Vulnerable children still being failed, inquiry told

Jo Olsson, who served as interim head of Health and Social Services for a year from August 2014, said the Island’s Children’s Services was facing serious problems and ‘profound difficulties’ which she said would take years to rectify.

Giving evidence to the Independent Jersey Care Inquiry on Thursday, she said that after taking on the job she found a system that left children ‘very, very vulnerable’.

On the closing day of phase two of the inquiry’s work – during which it has heard evidence in relation to decisions made during the police investigation into abuse, Codenamed Operation Rectangle – former Home Affairs Minister Andrew Lewis also gave evidence, accusing former police chief Graham Power of hijacking the inquiry by drawing its attention onto his suspension.
