Limes closure will go ahead, Health Minister tells Deputy

Deputy Jackie Hilton claims that after contacting every private nursing home in the Island, she was unable to find a free nursing bed to cater for someone over the age of 65.

Nursing beds differ from residential beds in that they require qualified nursing staff who help people who are unable to carry out day-to-day activities, such as taking medication and feeding themselves.

Ian Dyer, director of services for older people, said that on Monday this week there were two free nursing beds along with two further ‘step-up step-down’ nursing beds, which are used by the General Hospital.
