33-ft waves were recorded off the south coast and winds of up to 74 mph hit Jersey, as the Island felt the force of the worst storm of the winter.

Trees were blown down on roads including Rue à la Dame in St Saviour and Route de la Trinité. And Victoria Avenue was shut when large waves sent debris crashing over the sea wall.

A red weather warning continued to be in place on Monday.

The stormy conditions are expected to continue into Tuesday, although the tide warning has been downgraded to yellow, which advises caution.

Because of the weather conditions the newspaper plane was unable to reach the Island on Monday.
