Since that time a list of 40 sites has been compiled – including Fort Regent, Springfield Stadium and the waste treatment facilities at Bellozanne Valley – and more than £2 million has been spent on reviewing the options.
And yesterday, after months of speculation, Health Minister Andrew Green announced the final shortlist of Overdale, the Waterfront, the People’s Park and the current Hospital site to States Members.
A fifth option – a dual site operating between Overdale and the General Hospital made the shortlist initially but has since been discounted.
A two-month long public consultation on the best site for the new hospital will begin on 1 March. Ray Foster, director of estates for the States department Jersey Property Holdings, who has been involved in the process to whittle the sites down, said that he understood that people might have felt the process so far had taken place ‘behind closed doors’ but that the groundwork needed to be done to ensure a full list was compiled.
A report summarising the responses to the consultation will be published in May.
