Tax ‘wheeze’ accusation on national TV

Speaking on the political debate show, Scottish National Party Westminster leader Angus Robertson MP also said that the UK government needs to work with the Crown Dependencies, which are three independent territories with allegiance to the Crown – Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man, to close tax loopholes.

Mr Robertson’s remarks came after it was announced this week that multinational company Google had struck a deal with the UK tax authorities to pay £130 million in back taxes for the last ten years following an open audit of its accounts

The deal has been widely criticised by Labour and SNP politicians, who claim that it means that the firm will be required to pay less than three per cent of its profits over the last decade in corporation tax, compared to most companies which pay 20 per cent.
