Minister under pressure not to build new hospital at People’s Park

Earlier this month the JEP revealed that the park was emerging as a frontrunner for the location of the new £400 million hospital. Health Minister Andrew Green admitted that the site was a ‘strong contender’, although he said no final decision had yet been made.

However, the potential use of the People’s Park has prompted a backlash from some politicians and campaign groups who do not want to see the prized piece of public land built on.

And during States question time on Tuesday, St Helier Deputy Sam Mézec asked Senator Green to rule out the site, which is owned by St Helier.

It comes after St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft lodged a proposition urging the Council of Ministers to scrap any plans to build the new hospital on the park.
