The CI Air Search has been using an interim aircraft for its searches after the previous plane, the Lions’ Pride, was written off following a crash landing more than two years ago. A new plane, which is currently under construction in Romania, is being built by Britten-Norman.

Colin Ferbrache, chief officer of the CIAS, said: ‘With the advances in electronics and avionics, the new aircraft will be equipped to an extremely high specification for maritime search and rescue. It will have been a long time coming, but it should be excellent when it arrives.’
