St Andrew’s Road residents angry over new homes plan

Shortly before Christmas the Planning Committee narrowly approved plans to demolish a home known as Pont de l’Arche and replace it with two three-bedroom homes and a four-bedroom unit with a so-called granny annexe.

However, neighbours who live close to the plot, which backs on to Old St Andrew’s Road, have voiced strong opposition to the scheme and are due to submit a third-party appeal.

They say that the proposed homes are not in keeping with the area, that they are an overdevelopment of the site and that the properties will increase the danger for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers by bringing more cars to the road and by adding new driveways in an already cramped lane.

So far, 32 residents have signed in support of the £300 appeal, which has to be lodged by 7 January.
