Inquest to open into death of 63-year-old owner of Gallichan Marine

Police have confirmed that Robert John Gallichan was the owner of Gallichan Marine, which was gutted after a large fire.

A 63-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of arson following the blaze but died before answering bail. The States police have declined to confirm whether Mr Gallichan was the suspect.

The blaze, which happened in the early hours of Monday 7 December, caused nearby residents to flee their homes, while the Harbour Gallery, which is joined to the back of Gallichan Marine, suffered fire, smoke and water damage.

In a brief statement, police said: ‘The States police can confirm that Bob Gallichan, who is subject to the opening of the inquest, was the owner of Gallichan Marine.

‘A file is still being prepared for the Viscount. However, there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death. No further comments will be made.’

The cause of the Gallichan Marine fire is still being investigated.
