A team of six detectives are dedicated to the case, codenamed Operation Panama, and part of their investigative work is contacting local garages to see if cars have been brought in for repair with damage that may have been caused by a collision.
The garage enquiries, analysis of Mr Lynch’s bank accounts and interviews with his close friends and family are just some the lines of inquiry being pursued by police.
Speaking to the JEP, Detective Superintendent Stewart Gull stressed that the police were merely ‘re-assuring themselves’ that nothing potentially criminal, such as a road accident, has contributed to Mr Lynch’s disappearance.
He added that the police still believe that the former Les Quennevais student has most likely become disorientated, suffered from hypothermia and stopped in an area where emergency services have been unable to find him. Only his belt, phone and wallet have been recovered.
