The 79-year-old taxi driver – known on the roads for his annual Christmas cab – has retired after 55 years behind the wheel.

He was joined by colleagues at Jersey Airport on Wednesday for a farewell gathering at the Aviator Café in the building’s arrivals wing, where co-workers toasted the St Peter resident who began driving for a living in his early 20s.

Sitting alongside wife of 58 years, Madeline (75), he spoke fondly of his time navigating the Island’s roads, including giving lifts to the Rolling Stones, Tommy Cooper, Perry Como and 1960s five-piece Freddie and the Dreamers.

The chatty cabbie was also made an MBE for his years of charity work, which included fundraising and fun runs.
