Pensioners urged to protest outside States building ahead of Budget

Reform Jersey chairman Deputy Sam Mézec has called for all Islanders, but particularly the elderly, to gather in the Royal Square at 8.45 am on Tuesday to lobby politicians over the proposed freeze to pensioners’ income tax threshold.

It comes as a Scrutiny panel report has claimed that pensioners are being targeted to balance Jersey’s financial deficit with what it describes as effectively ‘increases in taxation’.
