The money has yet to be counted but with a £10 entry fee, the Jersey Women’s Refuge and the Variety Club of Jersey are hoping to share more than £1,000.

First across the line after running the 5k course was Casper Whitewood, closely followed by his father, Richard.

Refuge fundraising manager Jo Hepworth said it was a record turnout for the event.

‘It was a really good turnout, the most we have ever had, and the sun came out for us,’ she said.

‘There were lots of the runners dressed as Santa and it was great to see so many children and families taking part.’

The runners were entertained by the Swing Style Singers before the start and La Frégate Café was opened especially to provide shelter in the poor weather conditions.
