The funding gap in the department’s 2015 budget arose after revenue due to be earned from a contract to dispose of waste exported from Guernsey did not emerge.
The previous Transport Minister Kevin Lewis had budgeted that £1.5 million would be earned this year though incinerating Guernsey’s waste at the energy from waste plant.
But the States of Guernsey deferred their decision on an export scheme until 2016, leaving Mr Lewis’s successor Deputy Eddie Noel with no option but to apply for additional funding for his department to make ends meet.
The ministerial decision to approve the transfer of funds was approved by the Treasury Minister Alan Maclean this week.
