Richard Picot, a PE teacher at Victoria College, set up a GoPro camera at his Grouville home to try to get a close-up shot of the animal when it was feeding.

‘It was actually really easy,’ he said. ‘I just gaffer-taped the GoPro camera to a stick and stuck it in the ground overlooking the feeder.
‘I then went to my kitchen and monitored the camera using my iPhone, which has an app for it, and waited for the squirrel to turn up.
‘I thought I would be there for hours but it only took five minutes and he was there.
‘He was very inquisitive about the camera but was not worried at all.’
Richard says that there are often squirrels in his garden and he decided to take the close-up picture after enjoying watching them for a few weeks.
‘I had to set up two feeders because there are two rival families of squirrels and they are always fighting in the trees.
‘It’s amazing how tame they are.
‘They don’t seem scared of the cameras or anything and they let you get very close.’
Richard is a keen nature photographer and has also captured pictures of toads, insects and birds in his garden.
