More than 50 Islanders took part in the Great Jersey Potato Sack Carry Challenge in aid of Jersey Cheshire Home and the Jersey Brain Tumour Charity.
Now in its third year, the event sees participants working in pairs, teams of four or individually, with men carrying 25-kilo bags and women taking 15-kilo sacks – donated by Albert Bartlett – up Chemin du Câtel hill at Grève de Lecq, over a distance of 500 metres.
Event organiser Tim De Gruchy said: ‘The Great Jersey Potato Sack Carry Challenge is the friendliest and probably one of the toughest events in the Jersey calendar.
‘The objective, as always, is to support local charities, with a local event for local people.
‘Everybody came out unscathed and the weather held for us. We really appreciate everyone that came to support us.’
The event raised more than £1,000 which will be split between the two charities.
Jersey Cheshire Home provides permanent accommodation for people suffering with disabilities, allowing them to lead as independent a life as possible.
The Jersey Brain Tumour Charity supports Islanders, their families and friends from the moment of diagnosis and provides practical, emotional and financial help.
