Roger Le Maistre, a director of Creepy Valley Adventure Centre, has submitted a scheme for the buggy track on two north coast fields near Sorel Point.

However, the proposals, which have been backed by Visit Jersey and the CI Travel Group among other organisations, has prompted negative feedback from a number of parishioners.

Mr Le Maistre wants to create two buggy tracks, one for adults and one for children, and is hoping to open by Easter if planning is approved.

On Saturday, Mr Le Maistre spoke to parishioners and gave a demonstration of the buggies which would be used should the scheme get the go-ahead in an effort to dispel concerns about noise.

Mr Le Maistre admitted that ‘noise was always going to be the biggest concern’ but said that the buggies that he was proposing to use are built specifically with noise mitigation as a ‘primary factor’.

The tracks would be marked out using tires and straw bales and temporary cabins would be used as an office space and buggy storage at the site.

He said: ‘We are desperate for new and appealing activities for kids and families to do in Jersey.

‘The local demand for this type of activity is great and Visit Jersey, as well as many other companies, have supported this application.

‘This location is considered to be the best one we have found – the area is already associated with motor sport.

‘We are going to increase tourism spend in the Island and in the local area and there will be the creation of jobs.’

He also said that the high hedges which surround the proposed site would provide adequate screening and that he intended to plant more trees on the field.

Others raised concerns about the number of people that would be visiting the area. Mr Le Maistre said that the centre would likely only be used around 15 per cent of the time growing to a maximum usage of 35 per cent.

He added: ‘We are able to regulate the bookings via an online system. This is what we are using at Creepy Valley.

‘We would only have four buggies per track so we are able to restrict the numbers.’

The planning application is currently pending.
