Firefighters were called out at about 2.20 am following reports that a cylinder had caught fire, become detached from a barbecue and rolled underneath one of the homes.
Nine firefighters and two appliances were called to the scene, but the occupants had put the fire out before they arrived.
The crew stayed on site for two hours to cool the cylinder and disperse the gas.
Watch commander Paul McGrath said: ‘It had the potential to be a very serious fire.
‘Fortunately, rather than the whole cylinder being involved in a fire, the flames were only coming out the top of the cannister.
‘The cylinder was underneath the caravan itself, directly below two children who were asleep at the time.’

He added: ‘We stayed at the scene for a couple of hours to ensure that the cylinder would not reignite and that it was in a safe condition.
‘We left at around 4.20 am and the occupants returned to their caravans shortly after.’
Paramedics treated one of the occupants for shock.
The blaze is not being linked to a recent spate of suspicious fires which are being investigated by the States police.
However, Police are treating this incident as suspicious.
