After presenting the Letters Patent from the Queen and taking the oath of office, Mr Bailhache – who has been Deputy Bailiff for the past five years – was escorted from the court to put on the ceremonial red robes.
He then returned to be entrusted with the Royal Mace – presented to Jersey by King Charles ll in 1663, in gratitude for hospitality during his years of exile – and the Seal of the Island, granted by King Edward 1 in 1279.
