The House also rejected a more general call for the Health Minister to investigate the possibility of allowing patients who had exhausted all other options to use cannabis.

However, according to the hundreds of Islanders who took part in our poll, the politicians were wrong to reject that general move.

Of the 817 people who responded, 719 said that medicinal cannabis should be legal – a majority of 88 per cent.
