Church housing plan is rejected

However, Planning has rejected the scheme, saying it could lead to loss of privacy for the neighbours and parking problems.

The proposal sparked outrage among the community when it was published earlier this year, with residents launching a petition against the plans, which attracted more than 150 signatures. One Islander, former teacher Fraser Martin, who lives near the church, was so concerned he wrote to the Pope and appealed to the Vatican in an attempt to stop the development.
