The 66-year-old stands accused of spending public funds for personal items including using a parish credit card to pay for £601.75 worth of petrol during a three-year period and obtaining £935.76 in expenses, which he knew he was not entitled to.

Yesterday, on the third day of his Assize trial at the Royal Court, he took to the stand to deny 15 counts of misconduct in a public office, which are alleged to have occurred between August 2007 and July 2011.
