Oscar, the eldest son of Economic Development Minister Alan Maclean and his wife Nara, lost his fight against an aggressive type of brain cancer in October, more than a year after being diagnosed.
The foundation has now been set up to keep his memory alive. It will choose a different project each year to support aimed at improving the lives of sick children in Jersey, for example by providing equipment for services, respite for families and to help build new facilities.
It will work with local charities rather than take away fundraising opportunities from them and the first project for this year has yet to be chosen.
The competition to design a logo for the foundation is open to all Jersey youngsters aged 14 and under.
The finalists chosen, who will be broken down into age groups, will then get the chance to meet Jersey-born former Chelsea and England footballer Graeme Le Saux, who is one of the judges, at a final selection ceremony next month.
Mrs Maclean said that the competition would kick-start what they hoped would be an exciting future for the foundation.
The competition will be judged by John Whalley, group creative director of design experts Photolink, who will be helping to turn the design into a usable logo, and Mr Le Saux.
The chosen logo will then be used by the Oscar Maclean Foundation in all of its future correspondence, advertising and merchandise.
The closing date for entries is Monday 16 June and children can use any colours and designs that they wish.
The foundation would, however, like to include a flash of yellow somewhere in the logo in recognition of Oscar’s bright blonde hair.
There is no need for children to computerise the logos themselves as Photolink will do this with the final image.
Entry forms are being sent to schools and should be returned along with the designs to the Oscar Maclean Foundation Logo Competition, 8th floor, Union House, Union Street, St Helier, Jersey, JE2 3RF.
There is no cost to enter but voluntary donations can be attached if those entering wish.
