He passed away at a clinic in London on Sunday morning after being diagnosed with cancer in September.
Sir Michael served as Lieutenant-Governor from September 1995 to October 2000 after a distinguished military career which saw him command the Special Air Service and be appointed Adjutant-General, a position on the Army Board.
Jersey was an Island very close to his heart. Sir Michael’s wife, Anne, whom he met while playing rugby for the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, against Jersey, was a Jersey girl, the daughter of Major James Huelin, of St Peter.
The Bailiff, Sir Michael Birt, led the tributes to Sir Michael and expressed his condolences to his widow and the couple’s two sons, Jonathan and Jeremy.
