Drivers have been asked for their views on the automatic number plate recognition system since it was introduced last October.
About 80 per cent of those asked approved of the new way of parking, which means that it will probably be extended to Green Street, Patriot Street, Minden Place and Pier Road car parks early next year.
Five hundred people were surveyed outside the Sand Street car park, 250 Islanders filled in an online questionnaire and 40 took part in various focus groups.
