Dai Powell, the head of HCT Group, which owns LibertyBus, said yesterday that Jersey staff could be the first within the social enterprise group to share in the profits.

Mr Powell told the Institute of Directors lunch that his plan would make staff happier, leading to happier customers and, ultimately, an increase in profits for the firm and the States, with which it has a profit-sharing arrangement.

Since taking over the multi-million-pound contract to run Jersey’s buses in January, the firm has been beset by problems, including complaints over timetabling, overcrowding and route changes.
