The emergency services dispatched an inshore lifeboat, which quickly spotted the hoaxers who were feigning distress near the St Clement Dicq Slip on Sunday evening.
After arriving at the scene of the incident, the emergency crew spoke to the group of three and told them what their behaviour had led to.
Now Jersey’s Fire and Rescue Service has issued a warning about wasting the department’s time.
