From today, the Town Church will be decorated with flowers to complement the vestments – garments worn by priests and used to dress churches – that will be on display.

It is believed to be the first time since the 1960s that such an event has taken place, and it has been timed to coincide with St Helier Week.

Programmes will be sold for £1 explaining the significance of the colours to the Christian calendar and what the vestments are used for, and all the money raised will go towards paying for the restoration of the church’s organ.

The festival is entitled Seasons’ Celebrations – the Christian Rainbow, and will run for a week. It will open with a service of dedication at the church at 10 am today, Sunday 14 June, and for the rest of the week will be open to the public from 10 am to 4 pm.
