Hannah Maloret has been left devastated by the loss because the purse contained irreplaceable photographs of her late husband, Bill, playing with their grandson when he was a baby.
The theft happened outside the Town Hall where Mrs Maloret left her bag by mistake and returned home on her mobility scooter, having attended the Liberation tea party and, earlier, the service and re-enactment ceremony.
Although her bag was found and returned to her soon afterwards, it did not contain her purse holding the precious photographs, as well as credit cards and cash.
