Liberation Day in pictures

Chelsea Pensioners and Occupation survivors were among the large crowd gathered in and around Liberation Square for the special anniversary and annual commemorative service and re-enactment of the day when Jersey was liberated in 1945.

Much emphasis was placed on the importance of the Red Cross during the Occupation, and the charity’s chief executive, Sir Nicholas Young, was a special guest at the service.

Along with the Lieutenant-Governor, General Sir John McColl, the Bailiff, Sir Michael Birt, and other Island dignitaries, Sir Nicholas also attended the annual memorial service for slave workers at Westmount.

As well as the formal events of the day, a packed programme of music, dancing and other entertainment were provided at the Weighbridge throughout the afternoon, and a special celebration breakfast and tea parties were also held.
