Authorities in the UK are often criticised for subjecting health care and school placements to a ‘postcode lottery’, but drivers in Jersey could find that their parking charges will depend on where they live.

Transport Minister Kevin Lewis has confirmed that the introduction of the Island’s first number-plate recognition parking system at Sand Street last year could pave the way for postcode parking.

And although he said that any decisions on the idea were still a long way off, he could not rule out further parking measures which might incentivise, or even dictate, where Islanders park their cars on the basis of where they live.
