From next week, anyone going to the Rouge Bouillon station will have to use an intercom at the door to speak to police staff in the force’s control room.

Superintendent André Bonjour, who is overseeing the changes, said that very few people were using the desk during the night and it was identified as a place where money could be saved to improve efficiency.

From Monday the desk will be closed between 10 pm and 7 am from Monday to Thursday, and from midnight to 7 am on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays for a trial six-month period, after which time the closure will be reassessed.

Mr Bonjour explained that as part of the States’ comprehensive spending review cutbacks, the force had already lost one customer support officer at the inquiry desk, which meant that more police officers were being used to run the service.
