Earlier this week it emerged that the UK was threatening to block a major agreement that would see information about all US citizens’ bank accounts in Jersey handed to their tax authorities because the UK wants the same information about its citizens.

Today, two top Jersey civil servants, one from the Chief Minister’s department and one from the Treasury, were due to meet UK government officials to find out exactly what it is that the UK is threatening and what kind of agreement they are seeking.

Treasury Minister Philip Ozouf said that the US agreement was important but he was not unduly concerned by the potential setback at this stage.
