The minister has been criticised for speaking out over high prices by Chamber of Commerce president David Warr, but says that the competition watchdog’s review will answer the questions that Islanders have been asking for many years over high prices in Jersey.

But Mr Warr has spoken in defence of his members and the prices that they charge at the till, saying that there has been no freight reduction to pass on to customers.

‘I am really completely bemused by this story that freight prices have come down,’ he said.

‘I have gone through our figures over the last two years and it just is not right.

‘And I’m afraid that is just not acceptable. I am sick of seeing small businesses being beaten up, and the wrong impression being given.’
