This week the States passed new laws which will force every garage in Jersey to prominently display fuel prices which it is hoped will bring pressure to reduce soaring petrol costs.

In a debate in which Treasury Minister Philip Ozouf claimed that it appeared that a fuel cartel was keeping prices artificially high, Members voted in favour of compulsory roadside price displays at garages, following an in-principle debate last year.

Last week it was revealed that petrol prices had soared 28% in the last four years.
